FAQs
Who can access the Gidget Perinatal Support Centre?
Gidget Foundation Australia clients or future clients who are on a wait list, as well as Gidget Virtual Village Facebook members, are offered access to Sonder for free.
How much does it cost?
Access to the Gidget Perinatal Support Centre service is free of charge for Gidget Foundation Australia clients or future clients who are on a wait list, as well as Gidget Virtual Village Facebook members.
How is the service free?
This is only possible due to the generosity of the Australian Government who have funded the program which will conclude on 30 June 2025.
How do I access the app?
You can download the Sonder app from your preferred app store.
Why do I need to download an app?
Downloading the Sonder app will provide you access to the multi-lingual Gidget Perinatal Support Centre. Through the app, you will get access to Gidget content and other PNDA support information, receive push notifications, and have access to 24/7 chat with nurses and other specialists in the support centre in Sydney. The support centre can help with any safety, medical or mental health questions or concerns; and in certain circumstances can result in a visit from a member of the in-person Sonder support network.
How quickly will I get a response?
All chats and calls are answered within 60 seconds, and you will be speaking to the Sonder nurses within minutes. Depending on the matter at hand, the Sonder support centre will immediately connect you to the most appropriate support pathway and/or deploy one of their people to you – usually within 20 minutes.
Is the person who helps me trained?
The Sonder support centre is staffed by registered nurses and other experienced emergency specialists, who are all trained by Mental Health Australia. The in-person network comprises a mix of ex-emergency services personnel, clinicians and social workers.
Are they trustworthy?
All in-person support personnel are carefully recruited and sustained and are validated under WWVP. The network has been established for four years and provides regular in-person support for over 150, 000 members.
What can I talk about?
You can engage the Sonder team about any safety, medical or mental health issues. Sonder will listen and assess the situation, and then connect you to the right kind of support as needed.
Do you talk to the same person each time?
Not always, but the Sonder team is very close knit, and will be consistent and genuine in every interaction.
What do I do in an emergency?
If you’re in an emergency or you’re not sure, you can still call Sonder. Sonder will help you work out what you need and can contact emergency services on your behalf as required. Sonder can also send in-person support, with or without emergency services as appropriate.
Who is Gidget Foundation Australia?
Gidget Foundation Australia is a not for profit organisation that provides programs to support the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents.
The Gidget Foundation was named after a vibrant and joyful mother, who suffered from unrecognised postnatal depression. Her nickname was ‘Gidget’. The Foundation evokes Gidget’s warmth and lively spirit. Established by her friends and sisters, the organisation has grown and is now supported by passionate individuals, community leaders, health professionals, businesses and government.
New babies bring delight along with challenges. Nearly 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 fathers will suffer perinatal depression and anxiety; that’s around 100,000 Australians each year.
Who is Sonder?
Sonder believes that everyone should have access to help and support in moments they feel unsafe or uncertain. Sonder is on a mission to prove no matter the help you need, there are people out there with the right skills and experience to help you pursue your life with confidence.
